Using Electronic Tools in the Iterative Design of a Context-Aware Tour Guide: A Case Study

چکیده
We report on the iterative design of a context-aware tour guide. We employed an informal prototyping tool, Topiary, to help us in the early stage design of the system. By using this electronic support to rapidly prototype ideas and test the prototypes with end users in the field, we efficiently explored the usability issues of map-based navigation techniques. Based on the tests, which involved five different designs and two design iterations, and an analysis of implementation issues, we built a high fidelity prototype of the tour guide system. We describe our experience with this iterative design process as well as suggestions for the early stage design of context-aware applications. Author

Context-Aware Computing: A Test Case
Through an iterative design approach, we have proposed and evaluated ways of incorporating user-created information into context-aware systems. We implemented and tested a location-sensitive college campus tour guide called Campus Aware that allows users to annotate physical spaces with text notes. The goal was to provide visitors to the campus with a sense of the activities going on in the env...
متن کاملSociological Analyze of Women's Tour Guide Employment constraints on Tourism
Considering the necessity of women employment and the effective role of tourism in increasing job opportunities in this paper, we investigated the constraints provided by this job by using the experiences of women tour guide. The methodology in this study was qualitative and by using the Grounded Theory method. Data were collected by interviews and observations. Sampling method was targeted wit...
متن کاملA semantic-aware role-based access control model for pervasive computing environments
Access control in open and dynamic Pervasive Computing Environments (PCEs) is a very complex mechanism and encompasses various new requirements. In fact, in such environments, context information should be used in access control decision process; however, it is not applicable to gather all context information completely and accurately all the time. Thus, a suitable access control model for PCEs...
متن کاملCase study: Redesigning a Kansei Engineering Designed Scissors by User Centered Design Approach
This paper is based on the research which was conducted earlier on Kansei Engineering (KE) and resulted in a new concept for scissors to redesign it with another method called “User Centered Design” (UCD). This is a shift from translation of the consumers’ psychological feeling about a product related to their perception of the design (KE) to focus on designing for and involving users in the de...
متن کاملContext-Aware Hoarding of Multimedia Content in a Large-Scale Tour Guide Scenario - A Case Study on Scaling Issues of a Multimedia Tour Guide
This paper discusses scaling issues of a mobile multimedia tour guide. Making tourist-information available in a substantially large geographical area (e.g. a federal state in Austria) raises new questions, compared to providing similar information in a limited area (such as a museum). First, we have to assume a heterogeneous network infrastructure containing high and low bandwidth links and ev...
